Since coming home from NYC, I managed 4 solid weeks of training with 11 hours per week. I've got the body in a good place at the moment where there is progress being made in all areas of training including running and strength training.
Last week I weighed in the heaviest I have ever been at 71kg. Coming from 65kg last November or just 4 months ago, I've put on 6kg since then, which was the target. I've also kept a strong focus on keeping relatively lean, a significant amount of weight gain has been from gains in muscle mass while also focusing on protein intake and the increase and addition of taking creatine daily didn't do any harm either. I've really dialled in specifically with my nutrition on a daily basis since November and there's been some positive changes in muscle mass. The cycling physique is gone, thankfully.
The other side of it is, I'm 11kg heavier now than in 2021 and 8kg heavier than in 2023 just 2 years ago. However, I'm not racing up hills on the bike or spending 4+ hours in the saddle, so weight is no big deal. In fact, weight gain is important for Hyrox, particularly for the Sled work and dealing with the muscular fatigue throughout the event.
I'm looking forward to heading to Glasgow next Thursday and seeing what we can do in the doubles event. We've trained consistently hard since December with just one week off so a taper over the next few days should have us fresh and ready for a PB.
Next time.
Graham.
